When you tow, do you tense up or does your adrenaline start pumping when a traffic light suddenly turns yellow? Why? After all, your tow vehicle has enough braking power to stop it, and your trailer’s brakes are designed to stop it with room to spare too. So what’s the problem when you hitch-up to tow? It’s simple; today’s conventional brake controllers are the weakest link in the “tow-braking chain”. These controllers have their limitations, and over the past forty years or so we have learned how to accommodate for those weaknesses. There are MAJOR PROBLEMS with today's CONVENTIONAL BRAKE CONTROLLERS :
Because when you manually adjust that “gain knob” in most of today’s conventional brake controllers, you’re essentially setting the maximum limit of braking power your trailer brakes can deliver! And when your trailer brakes can only give you, say, 50% of their full stopping power, what happens? You begin to hate seeing those "orange" traffic lights and construction zone signs!
